Pre-School Room
OUR BRAND NEW PRE-SCHOOL FACILITY IS NOW OPEN !
We have just opened our brand new, bright & welcoming, newly resourced, pre-school facility on the first floor of the nursery.
Children will move to the this room, the term after their 3rd birthday, providing spaces are available.
A curriculum framework for children aged 3-5 years is set out by the Scottish Executive and is used by staff to set out learning outcomes for activities which are planned yearly, monthly and weekly. The staff and children are starting to work towards a curriculum for excellence a new framework for 3-18 years.
Our new room has a relaxing book area to encourage communication and language development. It includes a listening area where the children can enjoy story books and music. This area is situated in front of a huge, bright, low level dormer window where children can take in the lovely view of the hills and surrounding area.
, where children can enjoy whereThe children have opportunities to visit well resourced writing and maths areas where we also have a computer that they can access during sessions.
There are areas which are host to small construction toys such as wooden blocks, stickle bricks and duplo, to increase control of fine movements of the fingers and hands and to encourage children to learn colours, shapes and numbers.
For our puzzle area we have a variety of jigsaws tailored to different stages of development as well as matching games and fuzzy felt to improve hand-eye co-ordination, stimulate their minds and encourage perseverance; overall developing their knowledge and understanding of the world.
The role play corner is regularly changed to be adapted to suit our monthly theme. Our music area has a variety of instruments for the children to play and there are lots of opportunities for song time. All this encourages their expressive and aesthetic develop as they learn to role-play and invent their own music.
The children are very much involved in the planning and evaluation of their experiences.
The children follow a daily routine and take part in both structured and child led activities, which are observed for each child’s individual record of development. The staff team and parents work together, striving for the best possible care for each and every individual child.
There is a separate toilet room, equipped with low level toilets and wash hand basins. All taps are fitted with thermostats that regulate the temperature of the water. This prevents children from being scalded.
The new room has direct access to our recently upgraded garden which is of good size and equipped with a range of toys to promote physical development. There is a gardening plot where the children plant and care for their own vegetables and plants.
